![]() While surveys are handy for learning how many people identify as Republicans or Democrats in a state or country, they aren’t well suited to all types of questions. ![]() In this case, Hochschild focused on conservatives living in one of the nation’s most polluted counties in the South. Ethnographers like Hochschild aren’t focused on gathering data on as many people as possible, as a surveyor typically is, but instead work on gathering as much data as possible about a circumscribed group of people.
